Micostatin PVO is a topical polyene antifungal antibiotic. It is used in the treatment of oropharyngeal, cutaneous, mucocutaneous, and vulvovaginal candidiasis. The product is not useful for systemic fungal infections. Adverse events are minimal due to limited systemic absorption.

Indications

This is a polyphenic, antifungal antibiotic whose structural formula has not been determined and is obtained by the growth of the Streptomyces noursei strain. The suspension is indicated for the treatment of candidiasis in the oral cavity.

Dosage and administration

The product is for oral use. The suspension can be administered alone, with the help of water or by mixing it with a liquid or soft food that is not acidic, such as milk, honey, jelly, etc. In case of oral candidiasis, keep the suspension in the mouth as long as possible before ingesting it. For infants or young children, apply half the dose on each side of the mouth. It is important to have good oral hygiene, including dental prosthesis care if appropriate.

Contraindications

Micostatin PVO is contraindicated for use in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to any of the components of the formula.

Side effects

Side effects occur rarely. They include nausea, vomiting, gastrointestinal upset, diarrhea.

Overdose

Contact a poison control center or emergency room immediately if you think you have taken too much medicine.

Interaction

The action of nystatin is decreased by intestinal transit modifiers or medications that can isolate the mucosa.
