Valganciclovir is an oral antiviral drug used to treat symptoms of cytomegalovirus (CMV) retinitis, an eye infection in people with AIDS. It is often used as a long term treatment and it only suppresses rather than cures the infection. This drug is also used to prevent CMV disease in patients with an organ transplant (heart, kidney, or kidney-pancreas transplant).
